A Healthy Partnership
At HCCares, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare and that good healthcare outcomes should not be determined by zip code or ability to pay. To that end, we are thrilled to announce a new partnership and program with Rush University Medical Center – the Cardiometabolic Health Initiative – or CHI.
Led by cardiologist Dr. Danny Luger of Rush Medical University, his team of medical students will provide free heart-focused screenings at the Food Pantry one Wednesday a month during Food Pantry hours. At this pop-up clinic, a quick finger stick test will be analyzed on the spot, providing a full lipid panel, glucose and A1C levels. With that information along with blood pressure and other lifestyle markers, our clients will walk away knowing better their cardiovascular risk and ways to mitigate that risk.
The first clinic took place on August 14th and was received very well, serving about 15 people who were waiting in line for groceries. The next clinic is scheduled for September 25th from 8 to 11 am at 1908 S Millard Avenue. We are very excited to see this initiative toward health equity unfold!
