volunteer at the food pantry

Unlike most Food Pantries, the Harmony Food Pantry relies almost solely on volunteers. We are always looking for people to help us on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 11:30 am when we bag or box groceries to be distributed on Wednesday when the Pantry is open to the public. And we need volunteers on Wednesdays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm to help set up, do client intake or greet and help our clients. It’s a great way to meet wonderful people, help out and have fun! We hope you join us! Please contact Connie at volunteer@harmonycommunitycares.org.

become a tutor

We rely on volunteer tutors for In-person Tutoring from 6:30 to 8:00 pm every Tuesday during the school year. No experience is needed – just a desire to form relationships with amazing children and help with homework appropriate for grades K – 12.

We also need tutors for our Online Tutoring program. These are hourly-paid positions and can be done from your home or anywhere you have a good internet connection. Online Tutors and their Tutees have the advantage of setting their own schedule, up to four hours per week. It is a wonderful way to have a positive effect on a young person’s life and their academic success.

In order to keep our students safe, we do require that tutors complete the Illinois Mandated Reporter course and receive CANTS certification, and submit to a background check. If you’re interested in becoming a tutor, please contact Liza at tutoring@harmonycommunitycares.org.

Teach community arts

We need experienced instructors in the arts specializing in creative movement, drama, visual arts and Spoken Word. Instructors are paid hourly or by the semester. If you are interested in building strong relationships with amazing kids, please contact Melonie at arts@harmonycommunitycares.org.

Volunteers are also needed and welcome! We would love help serving meals, assisting the instructors and occasionally chaperoning field trips.

As with our tutors, all instructors and volunteers will need to complete the Illinois Mandated Reporter course and receive CANTS certification, and submit to a background check. If you’d like to get creative with us or share your talents, click here.

Make a Financial Contribution

While we encourage you to get involved in our programs and be proximate to the challenges that exist in North Lawndale, we also appreciate your financial contributions. None of our programs would be possible without the support of so many in the North Lawndale community, throughout Chicago and even across the country. You can contribute directly to a program or allow us to use your donation where it is needed most. Any amount is appreciated and will be used directly to provide services!

Harmony Community Cares, NFP is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.
