Building Bridges across the world
To escape danger and in search of a better life for themselves and their families, asylum-seekers from Venzuela and other countries are landing in Chicago. Many arrive with just the clothes on their backs.
Not surprisingly, the HCC Food Pantry volunteers have sprung into action. In addition to groceries and diapers, they have shown their love and care of these “New Neighbors” by collecting backpacks with basic necessities, like clothing, toiletries and first aid kits. Children are delighted with gifts of a book or toy.
Since May 15th, HCC has given out more than 50 backpacks to our “New Neighbors.” And each time we see them return with their smiles and backpacks, we know that we’re building bridges, not just for those within Chicago, but for people from all over the world.
