Community SPotlight: Jacalyn Kareb
Meet Jacalyn Kareb, a devoted volunteer for three and a half years. Every Wednesday, you can find Jackie checking in clients and providing a smile and a warm welcome.
“I love the familiarity with the clients we have. I think they like seeing familiar faces and have some comfort in knowing that we’re here to help them. I know how hard it is for folks to put food on the table and that we can do this is just such a blessing.”
She also expressed her gratitude for how well the pantry is run.
“I’m so grateful for the leadership that Diane and Shonte provide. It’s such a huge operation and it always runs so smoothly with their guidance. I’m just very grateful for that. Also for the willingness to try new things and new ways to serve like we did a couple of years ago when we had the influx of migrants from Central and South America.”
Jacalyn’s charity doesn’t stop at the pantry. She’s a former tutor in our Tuesday night program. She’s also a supporter of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, public media, and housing support organizations.
We are grateful to have a volunteer as generous as Jacalyn. We thank her for everything she does!
