Community SPotlight: Linda Street
This month, we’re putting the spotlight on Linda Street, a longtime volunteer at Harmony Food Pantry and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest. At the food pantry, you can often see Linda working the front desk, giving a warm welcome to each person who comes through our doors.
Linda has been coming to the food pantry for seven years. “When we were new at our church in River Forest, we met John Lattyak, who said, you need to work at Harmony Food Pantry,” Linda reflected. “We fell in love, and my husband and I stayed.”
There’s a lot to love about Harmony Food Pantry - for Linda, she loves providing food to those who need it and meeting the people who make up the North Lawndale community. “I like meeting the people because some of them have been coming here for awhile and we get to be friends - we know when they’ve been in the hospital or when somebody had a baby and it’s a community, it’s a neighborhood.”
At it’s core, the work being done at Harmony Food Pantry reflects Linda’s faith. She explained that like Jesus, Harmony Food Pantry welcomes and loves everyone, helping them to be better versions of themselves. “Looking at Jesus in my heart and this activity, it’s a perfect fit.”
