REPORTS TO: Food Pantry Director

STATUS:Part time, 20 hours per week, no benefits

COMPENSATION: Hourly:  $18-$25 per hour commensurate with education and experience

Background:

The Harmony Food Pantry (HFP) is a part of Harmony Community Cares – a nonprofit located in the North Lawndale neighborhood in Chicago. The Pantry was founded by Rev. James Brooks, Sr. and has a 14 year history of expanding its impact on reducing food insecurity in the community.   

In 2020 the Harmony Food Pantry served 13,467 households - an average of 300 per week.  HFP processes an average value of $840,000 worth of food from Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) per year and is in the top twenty food pantries supplied by GCFD.

Role:

This Food Pantry Coordinator role is a new role envisioned as a part time job (20 hours per week). Two days are on-site at the Harmony Food Pantry location (1908 S. Millard Ave, Chicago, Illinois). The Coordinator will be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the pantry. The Food Pantry Coordinator reports to the Food Pantry Director. The Coordinator works closely  with the Logistics Coordinator, who leads the team that unloads trucks and moves food supplies into and out of the building.

Essential Functions:

●      Supervise 1099 workers and volunteers

●      Ensure operational quality, safety, integrity, and dignified client experience  

●      Manage all weekly operations of the Harmony Food Pantry (including but not limited to)

○      Order all food supplies from GCFD and other sources

○      Schedule, train and coordinate volunteers

○      Supervise weekly food sorting/packaging process and preparation for Client distribution

○      Supervise weekly client distribution process

○      Ensure receipt and processing of client verification data (GCFD “Link2Feed”)

○      Coordinate with all partner agencies (e.g., “ 8 Block Sector”; The Hatchery, etc.)

○       Monitor Hfoodpantry@gmail.com emails

○      Coordinate with the Community Relations Department at Greater Chicago Food GCFD

●      Oversee the Senior Delivery Program

○      Weekly program delivering both food supplies and prepared meals to seniors.  Partner with The Hatchery, “8 Block Sector” (I am Able) and Lawndale Community Christian Church

●      Oversee the collection and processing of Harmony data

○      Data for attendance, volunteers, food processed, etc.

●      Supervise the bookkeeping for all financial flows

○      expenses, food donations, financial donations, grant program tracking

●      Manage HFP communications

○      Donor acknowledgements, social media content; partner agencies, other pantries,   

Knowledge and Critical Skills:

●      5+ years of successful work experience

●      2 years Supervisory/Managerial experience

●      Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence

●      Strong communications skills (written and verbal)

●      2 year associate degree or 4 year College degree

●      Experience with financial records and spreadsheets

●      Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities across multiple activities

●      Collaborative, positive work style; able to motivate volunteers

●      Food pantry or other nonprofit experience is a plus

●      Fluency in Spanish (a plus)

●      Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Applications

●      Ability to meet deadlines with time constraints and effectively interact with staff

●      Must have ability to work from home or remotely as necessary (requires high speed internet service)

Physical/Visual Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

●      Lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

●      Sit, stand, talk and hear for extended periods of time and operate electronic equipment

●      Have vision abilities to withstand long-term use of computer devices is required,
