Nourishing Young Minds: Ensuring Food Security for Our Students

Every child deserves a warm, nutritious meal—yet food insecurity remains a challenge for many in our community. At our Academic Enrichment program, we believe that providing healthy meals is just as crucial as the tutoring and mentorship we offer.

On average, we invest $600 a week to ensure our students have a warm meal, providing them with the energy and focus they need to thrive. Jackie Brooks, Director of the tutoring program, emphasizes the importance of these meals: “I always want to encourage healthy meals because it’s fuel for the brain, it makes them learn better and sleep better, and it keeps them coming!

The meals are provided by Jenni B’s Catering, a beloved local business in West Garfield. The impact of these meals goes beyond nutrition—it creates a sense of excitement and belonging. Jenni shares, “They are outside waiting for me, and the kids help me in with the food. The first thing they say is, ‘What are we eating today?’ That makes my day. When asked what they love about tutoring, they always answer, ‘The food!’”

Your generous donations make this possible, guaranteeing that every child in our program has access to dinner when they attend.
