our roots

Harmony Community Cares (HCC) has its roots in the outreach mission of Harmony Community Church, serving the people of North Lawndale since 1986. In order to reach all who reside in the neighborhood and to expand our services, Harmony Community Cares, a 501(c)3, was created in 2018. 

The current Board President is James Brooks, MDiv of North Lawndale and CEO of Lawndale Christian Health Center. His father, James Brooks, Sr, was the Pastor of Harmony Community Church for more than 20 years. He started the Food Pantry in 1986 that is still serving the need in the community. The HCC Board is comprised of members from various backgrounds, ethnicities, religions and experience. Our by-laws require that 51% or more of our members reside, work or worship in North Lawndale.
