Summer in the City

Summer in Chicago - it doesn’t get much better than that! And, for Harmony Community Cares’ kids, this summer marked another exciting batch of field trips to the Chicago Kids Company, the Museum of Science and Industry, downtown Chicago for an enlightening architecture walking tour, and Urban Air Adventure Park.

With a new perspective after their Theater Workshop this spring, the kids were impressed with the production of Jack and the Beanstalk by the Chicago Kids Company at the Beverly Arts Center.

At the Museum of Science and Industry, these young folks were inspired by exhibits on Black creativity in architecture, as well as the history and design of bicycles. You could see the wonder in these students’ eyes as they learned about the history and science of the world around them.

And to underscore what they learned about architecture, the students took a walking tour of Chicago’s world-renowned architecture.

Finally, to cap off a summer of exciting cultural trips, the kids were able to just be kids!. At Urban Air Adventure Park, they played… jumping & flipping on trampolines, climbing walls and having a great time.

All in all, it was a successful summer with a lot of memorable moments for our students. We’re already excited for next year’s trips!

Harmony’s summer field trips were funded by a grant from the Safe and Peaceful Communities Fund of the Chicago Community Trust.
