Announcing the Theater Workshop
Lights, Camera, Action! This Winter, Harmony’s Community Arts program is thrilled to announce a new Theater Workshop! From January to June, our arts students will go behind the curtain and learn all there is to putting on a stage performance.
Theater Production is more than just play acting. Our Teaching Artist for this Workshop, Leah Barsanti, says it best:
“Theater is, by nature, a performative art form, and even those students who choose not to be actors will see their work presented to an audience. This experience allows them to take pride in the work they have created and build confidence in seeing their hard work become a part of something greater than themselves. In the creation of this theatrical experience, these students will also have to work with others in order to create a cohesive production. This will require building trust between these young theater artists and the groups with which they are working directly, as well as within the larger company.
The skills learned in these collaborations will serve students beyond this particular workshop, into the workforce and beyond. Theater is also incredibly beneficial for developing socio-emotional skills. By asking students to work through dramatic situations in a productive way, we are giving them a space in which they can process emotions safely. We are also asking them to explore the ways in which their actions affect the actions of others, which builds them into better and more empathetic people.”
